Hi @astro@c3d2.social, I think I found a bug with FediBuzz and how it does its Webfinger responses.

Is it OK to prune dead inboxes (target nodes for delivery) after grace period of e.g. 7 days when transport failures (timeout, SSL, DNS, redirect loop, unresolvable host), 400, 404, 410, all 5xx occur repeatedly)?

I am pleased to announce three new open source products available for testing:

One of the big pain points for ActivityPub developers is supporting HTTP Signature in their servers. The Fediverse uses an out-dated draft standard, draft cavage 12. There’s a helpful ActivityPub and HTTP Signatures report from the SocialCG, but it’s still kind of a slog.

I wrote up some recommendations about implementing paginated collections.

This is a topic for community work on FEP-3447: Endorsements. The early-early-pre-draft is currently on my own GitHub, but should be moving to the official Codeberg repository soon.

httpsig.org is a site with one sole purpose, to advocate for the adoption of RFC 9421 HTTP Signatures. It has a “Libraries” tab that does exactly what it advertises, it lists a bunch of libraries for you to use so you don’t have to roll your own.

When it comes to backfilling topics, NodeBB utilises what is called “context collection backfill” instead of reply-chain traversal. In a nutshell, instead of crawling up and down the reply tree one-by-one — kind of like what Mastodon does currently — it checks for a canonical source-of-truth in the context property.

Can WebFinger resolve subject to a different domain?

So, one part of the popular imagination about ActivityPub I’ve seen is the idea of server federation.

Unfortunately I was only able to join for the third and last day of FediForum, but the energy was quite strong even then!

In the HTTP Signature Report we suggest a double-knock strategy for deploying RFC 9421. Basically, try RFC 9421 first, and if you get an error, downshift to draft-cavage-12 and try again.

Hi @peertube@framapiaf.org I am looking to debug some potential federation issues between NodeBB and Peertube and I am wondering if there is a test server I can federate against.

I was talking to my marketing guy about integrating a tags-based onboarding workflow for freshly installed forums.

NodeBB federates out Note or Article depending on the length of the content. While this by-and-large works, the article logic does not encourage as much discussion as expected because a summary is generated so as to provide something for microblog-style software to show (otherwise, it would only show the title (name) and a URL to the forum.)

If I post something to a remote community, Mastodon people reply directly to me, and it doesn’t make it to the remote community. 👎

I’ve seen hints of backfill working really well, but hadn’t seen good examples until recently. As more and more instances upgrade to the newer versions of Mastodon that support context, backfill from Mastodon instances will improve across the board.

Threaded applications often have the need to move and remove content between groups/communities for curation purposes (i.e. resolving miscategorization, spam, etc.)

For the ActivityPub API Task Force, I started an issue to discuss OAuth client reputation systems.

Is there interest in starting up a new server? I am incentivized to provide something for this niche (or perhaps not-so-niche) part of the fediverse.
