Hot take: the killer feature of htmx which transforms it from a nice lil’ opinionated DSL for HTML-based reactivity to a powerhouse full-stack framework with which you can build ambitious, even experimental application architectures is this: Extensions.

Excuse while I go spend the next several hours laughing my ass off as I picture every single analyst who ever said Apple was going to be steamrolled by (*checks notes*) ChatGPT. 🤣🤣🤣

This sort of flew right by me, but I’m very excited about this release of htmx because it adds support for parsing Declarative Shadow DOM. Now you can server-render web components & layouts in their full glory and use them in your pages and fragments! 🥳

Strong leadership is sometimes required to keep Open Source projects vibrant. Yet there are many possible forms of effective governance, including—yes—democracy. By Jared White

Somebody shared this image on Bluesky (I'd link to their post but it's not available to public access).

Cool interview of @mb21@hachyderm.io about his Mastro framework. Lots to like about this.

I think nobody wants AI in Firefox, Mozilla

A wonderfully-written sentiment from my favorite indie browser. 🥰

The state of play in late 2025 and my expectation that the bubble will burst in 2026. The “Agentic Age” did not materialize this year. Anti-AI activism is heating up…people are noping the f out of the Torment Nexus . Gen-Z and Gen Alpha are turning against the slop machines. That’s AI! goes the new lingo. Microsoft’s AI CEO is getting pummeled online and a post-Windows PC landscape looking increasingly likely. This and a whole lot more, right here on Vibe Coded.

In the continuing saga of us wanting the best web components DX ever without going all-in on a “prebundled” base class, here’s another exciting development!

This man has no self-awareness at all. No sense of shame. 🙃

Fellow netizens, the moment you've all been waiting for: the inaugural episode of Jared White's new podcast Vibe Coded! Magic escalators & floating men? Bots blocked bad by big business? 100 books read a day? All that and a whole lot more…most def you're not gonna want to miss this!

In this episode, I have a lively chat with Cory Dransfeldt about getting started as a web developer making band websites and his recent work on design systems, his passion for supporting creators and the preservation of craft, the ai.robots.txt open source project, what the GitHub CEO said ( note : we recorded this episode before he announced he was stepping down), releasing a music app for Navidrome, machines coming for our tattoos (!), and a whole lot more.

And this is why "AI" as a marketing term has proven to be so completely absurd. 😂

While watching an animated YouTube video essay a few weeks ago, I suddenly realized that both the narrator’s voice and the visuals were AI-generated. This was not disclosed anywhere in the video description or credits.

So cool! As soon as I can get my hands on this, I'll be publishing a review on The Internet Review . Very excited about this concept!

The CEO of Amazon Web Services also said cutting junior staff for AI could wreck future talent pipelines.

As you know, here at That HTML Blog we're all about layering on lightweight and “vanilla-adjacent” tools to projects after you've fully outgrown native web APIs (and got sick of writing a ton of boilerplate 😏).

Saw this on Hacker News, and…um, wow.

I’ve talked in length about the ethical quandaries surrounding generative AI, from the industrial-scale theft of intellectual property to the ways it harms both the natural as well as digital environments due to its extractive nature. But I also want to talk about the aesthetics of the slop output we have to contend with now on a regular basis, and I don’t just mean the political side of it—I and many others have been sounding the alarm that genAI lines right up with aesthetics of fascism . Rather, I want to explore the relationship between the slop machines and true art forms, and why we just aren’t seeing anything meaningful and lasting being produced using these problematic technologies.

The same tired, clichéd arguments keep coming up over and over again why we should all welcome our new robot overlords, so I'm here to knock 'em all down and push back systematically…but most importantly, make the case for the #ProCraft Movement and how vital it is that we preserve and champion the historical & emotional components of Human Creativity.

“I think there’s a very high possibility that this is all a bunch of horseshit. It’s basically a bunch of centibillionaires whose greatest life goal is to become the world’s first trillionaires. I think they’re selling a bag of vapour,”’ said Vince Gilligan

SlopStop is Kagi’s community-driven feature for reporting low-quality, mass‑generated AI content (“AI slop”) found in web, image and video search results.

Of all the arguments put forth by the hype-bros for Generative AI, this one is perhaps the most perplexing. And it deserves serious scrutiny.

I almost labeled this NSFW with all the circle jerking going on! 😂

In this episode I talk about the shocking decline in AI safety, why AI is becoming a religion and that shouldn’t surprise us, software developer reluctance and growing impatience in using these tools, and the LMDs of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Oh yes, we’re going there!

So I thought it would be fun to revisit the Invoker Commands API (MDN) which is available in Chromium-based browsers and hopefully coming soon to Safari and Firefox (both are currently in testing).

Somehow we went from a network of millions posting on thousands of Web sites to a network of billions posting on…one of a half-dozen Web sites completely controlled by megacorps . And it's not just on the posting side…we don't even want to read, listen to, or watch thousands of possible network destinations either. We are expected to accept that all information will soon be mediated through the latest release of the MegaPlexaChatPilotify 5000 app.

Ever since the momentous release of Tailwind CSS version 4 at the start of this year (January 2025), I have been telling people that the CSS Framework Wars™ are finally over. CSS won! And amazingly, so did Tailwind. Plot twist!

This is putting a BIG smile on my face today. 🤣

Over the past few years I’ve said on many occasions that signals, a reactive primitive popularized by many JavaScript frameworks and libraries (and most easy to pick up using the implementation by the Preact folks), makes it much easier to add declarative binding to your HTML using basic vanilla DOM techniques + signal effects.
